IFAR, a Tomsk-based company in Siberia, and the local Institute of Organic Chemistry are working on a new pain reliever that is expected to produce no narcotizing effect on the human body, portal Hi-news.ru . The pain relievers that are widely used today are all narcotizing, at least slightly.

The developer claims the new drug candidate is non-addictive, unlike its current competition.

Pain-relieving properties in this new compound are reported to have been found by coincidence as the researchers were synthesizing a new class of substances. With its potential effects properly assessed the company elected to go on with the research, which eventually led to the development of this experimental pharmaceutical composition that is said to differ much in its content from all other contemporary analgesics.

According to IFAR CEO Veniamin Khazanov, the drug candidate is unlikely to hit the market before 2023. Animal tests are scheduled to start by the end of this year. With a Russian patent under its belt the company is currently working on an international license.
