At least $11.5bn will be invested into a project to rebuild roads on a 622km stretch of the M4 Don motorway, Russia's Transport Ministry said today.
The five year project is set to run between 2010-2015.
The move is being funded by the federal Transport System Development 2010-2015 program, announced previously.
The M4 Don motorway forms part of the North-South international transport corridor which passes through major cities home to some 10 million people.
According to government transport statistics more than 20 million drivers and passengers use the motorway annually.
