Krasnodar to effect $340m housing overhaul by 2011
The federal Support for Reforming Housing Utilities program is granting the Krasnodar Region for $61m to overhaul residential utilities in the region, region officials have reported.
The federal program has been set up to fund the replacement and upgrade of ageing utility services in Soviet apartment blocks, including piping and boilers.
The funds will be allocated to repair apartment blocks with 225,000 residents in eleven region settlements.
The regional administration has also forked up as additional $21m has been racked up from the local coffers to overhaul housing utilities and relocate residents.
Regional authorities report that the region is to get another $41m to relocate 7,000 people currently living in crumbling blocks beyond repair.
By 2011 the region is to receive the law-allowed maximum of $340m in federal aid.
