Russian Railways in $11bn Krasnodar road-rail move
State rail operator Russian Railways has announced $11bn plans to build a joint motor and rail highway linking Adler and Krasnaya Polyana in Krasnodar region.
The move is being seen as a key part of bolstering passenger transport infrastructure in the run up to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, in an area which, like much of Russia, suffers from varying road quality.
Russian Railways' CEO Vladimir Yakunin said a 45-kilometer road and seven tunnels, including one four kilometers long, were to be built under the project.
The route is scheduled to be put into operation by 2013, while the design state was to kick off by the end of the year, Mr Mr. Yakunin added.
